Water Pump: Service and Repair
RemovalCAUTION: Do not mix Standard (green) Coolant with Extended Life Coolant (orange). If mixing occurs, drain engine cooling system and refill with originally equipped coolant type. If this contamination occurs the service change interval on Extended Life Coolant will be reduced from 6 yearsllS0,000 miles to 3 years/30,000 miles.
1. Remove the radiator.
2. Lift the accessory drive belt tensioner and remove the accessory drive belt.
3. Remove the belt idler pulley.
4. Slide the water bypass hose clamp back.
5. Disconnect the heater hose at the water pump.
1 Release the clamp.
2 Remove the hose.
6. Disconnect the lower radiator hose at the water pump.
1 Release the clamp.
2 Remove the hose.
7. Remove the bolts and the water pump pulley.
8. Remove the two stud bolts from the water pump.
9. Remove the ten bolts and the water pump.
Installation
1. NOTE: Use Metal Surface Cleaner F4AZ-19A536-RA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M5B392-A and a suitable plastic or wooden scraper to clean the sealing surfaces.
Position the water pump and install the two stud bolts.
2. Connect the water bypass hose and position the clamp.
3. Install the bolts.
4. Install the water pump pulley.
5. Connect the lower radiator hose to the water pump.
1 Position the hose.
2 Install the clamp.
6. Connect the heater hose to the water pump.
1 Position the hose.
2 Install the clamp.
7. Install the belt idler pulley.
8. Lift the accessory drive belt tensioner and install the drive belt.
9. Install the radiator.
