Throttle Body Spacer: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

WARNING
^ DO NOT SMOKE OR CARRY LIGHTED TOBACCO OR OPEN FLAME OF ANY TYPE WHEN WORKING ON OR NEAR ANY FUEL-RELATED COMPONENTS. HIGHLY FLAMMABLE MIXTURES ARE ALWAYS PRESENT AND CAN BE IGNITED, RESULTING IN POSSIBLE PERSONAL injury.
^ FUEL IN THE FUEL SYSTEM REMAINS UNDER HIGH PRESSURE EVEN WHEN THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING.
^ BEFORE WORKING ON OR DISCONNECTING ANY OF THE FUEL LINES OR FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS, THE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE MUST BE RELIEVED.


1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Perform Fuel Pressure Release procedure.
3. Remove the Engine Air Cleaner, the Air Cleaner outlet tube and the accelerator splash shield.







4. Disconnect the accelerator cable and the speed control actuator cable.
1 Disconnect both cables at the throttle bell crank.
2 Disconnect both cables from the accelerator mounting bracket.







5. Remove the accelerator mounting bracket.
1 Remove the spring.
2 Remove the bolts.
3 Remove the accelerator mounting bracket.







6. Disconnect the following at the intake manifold.
1 PCV hose.
2 Power brake booster vacuum supply hose.
3 Main vacuum supply line
4 Evaporative emissions canister purge valve hose.







7. Disconnect the hose and electrical connector from the idle air control valve.







8. Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector.







9. Remove the two bolts retaining the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) transducer bracket to the intake manifold. Position the bracket and the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) transducer out of the way.







10. Disconnect the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve.
1 Loosen the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) tube nut.
2 Disconnect Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) tube.
3 Disconnect the vacuum line from the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve.







11. Remove the four bolts from the throttle body spacer.







12. Remove the throttle body, throttle body spacer,Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve and idle air control valve as an assembly.

INSTALLATION







1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.

















2. Install the four throttle body spacer bolts.
1 Tighten to 8-10 Nm (71-88 Lb/In).
2 Tighten bolts an additional 85-95 degrees.
