Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

Removal

CAUTION: When servicing exhaust system or Removing exhaust components, disconnect all heated oxygen sensors at the wiring connectors to prevent damage to the heated oxygen sensors and wiring harness.

1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Disconnect H02S connectors.
3. Remove muffler.
4. Remove three-way catalytic converter retaining bolts, Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC), exhaust converter outlet gasket and nuts from exhaust system flex tube.
5. Discard exhaust converter outlet gasket.

Installation
1. Loosely install three way catalytic converter to exhaust system flex tube using a new exhaust converter outlet gasket.
2. Install muffler.
3. Align exhaust system. Make sure muffler and three way catalytic converter are fully engaged. Tighten all nuts and bolts, starting at front of system, to specification. Tighten the three-way catalytic converter retaining bolts to 34-46 Nm (25-33 ft. lbs.), tighten exhaust clamp nuts to 34-46 Nm (25-32 ft. lbs.).
4. Connect H02S connectors.
5. Check system for exhaust leaks.
6. Lower vehicle.
