ISSUE
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0455 stored in memory if the fuel cap is loose or off. There could also be DTCs P0135, P0141, P0155, or P0161 stored in memory and no driveability concerns on some vehicles. These concerns may be due to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration (OBD II monitors not completing frequently enough). This TSB article has been coded on OASIS to enable this service repair to be performed on all referenced calibrations.
ACTION
Reprogram the PCM with the latest level calibration using Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS), Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS), or New Generation Star (NGS) Tester. Refer to the following PCM Reprogramming Information Chart to identify the appropriate calibration.
NOTE:
DEALERS SHOULD INSTRUCT CUSTOMERS TO CHECK THE FUEL CAP IN SUCH SITUATIONS FOR PROPER INSTALLATION.
PCM REPROGRAMMING INFORMATION
Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
