Removal
1. Remove the radiator.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Note: This step is for vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions only.
Remove the flywheel housing cover retaining screws and flywheel housing cover.
4. Note: To prevent the crankshaft from rotating, use a breaker bar for in-vehicle service or Flywheel Holding Tool for bench overhaul.
Remove the crankshaft vibration damper, using the Damper Remover.
5. Using the Tube Remover and Impact Slide Hammer, carefully remove the crankshaft front seal.
6. Remove the crankshaft damper wear ring.
1. Assemble the step plate adapter, damper wear ring remover, bearing collet sleeve, remover tube and forcing screw to the crankshaft vibration damper.
2. Tighten the forcing screw until the crankshaft damper wear ring is pulled free from the hub of the crankshaft vibration damper.
Installation
1. Thoroughly clean the crankshaft front seal mounting surface.
2. Coat the new crankshaft front seal with multi-purpose grease.
3. Note:
^ If necessary, rotate the Front Crank Seal Replacer to align it with the crankshaft key.
^ Install a new crankshaft damper wear ring whenever the crankshaft vibration damper is removed.
Install the crankshaft front seal, using the Front Crank Seal Replacer, thread adapter, driver sleeve and driver/puller screw. Install the crankshaft front seal until it is fully seated.
1. Assemble the Driver Handle to the damper wear ring replacer. Insert the crankshaft damper wear ring into the damper wear ring replacer and position the tool assembly into the crankshaft vibration damper as shown. Use a ball-peen hammer to seat the crankshaft damper wear ring into the hub of the crankshaft vibration damper.
2. Apply RTV sealant to the crankshaft keyway prior to crankshaft vibration damper installation. Install the vibration damper, using the driver/puller screw, driver sleeve and thread adapter.
4. Note: To prevent the crankshaft from rotating, use a breaker bar for in-vehicle service or the flywheel holding tool for bench overhaul.
Install the crankshaft pulley bolt and washer.
5. Remove the Flywheel Holding Tool.
6. Install the flywheel housing cover and screws.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Install the radiator.
9. Check and refill the crankcase oil.
