Oil Pump: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.





3. Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil.





4. Remove the oil bypass filter.





5. Remove the oil pump.
- Remove the bolts.





6. Separate the (1) oil pump drive gear, the (2) oil pump driven gear, the (3) oil pump O-ring and the (4) oil pump. Discard the oil pump O-ring.
7. Inspect the components.





8. Inspect the face of the oil pump for flatness.
9. Remove the engine front cover.





10. Remove the plug over the oil pressure relief valve.





11. Remove the oil pressure relieve valve ball and spring and clean the parts.





12. Assemble the oil pressure relief valve ball and spring with a new plug.

Installation

1. Note: Lubricate parts with Super Premium SAE 5W30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G before assembly.








To install, reverse the removal procedure.
