Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

NOTE:
^ Replacement of the suction accumulator/drier is not required when repairing the air conditioning system except when there is physical evidence of system contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the suction accumulator/drier.
^ If an A/C evaporator core leak is suspected, the A/C evaporator core must be leak tested before it is removed from the vehicle.

1. Remove the suction accumulator/drier; refer to Suction Accumulator/Drier.







2. Remove the screws and reposition the A/C vacuum reservoir tank and bracket (if equipped).







3. Disconnect the connector from the speed control servo (if equipped).







4. Remove the bolt and reposition the speed control servo (if equipped).







5. Disconnect the condenser to evaporate tube from the A/C evaporator core; refer to the Spring Lock Coupling Disconnect and Connect general procedure. Spring Lock Coupling Connect and Disconnect Procedure







6. Remove the support bracket.







7. Disengage the windshield washer hose retainer and position aside.







8. Disconnect the vacuum hose.







9. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the retainer and position aside.







10. Remove the nut located in the passenger compartment.







11. Remove the nuts.







12. Remove the screws and the A/C accumulator bracket.







13. Remove the screws, the clips and remove the cover.







14. Remove the A/C evaporator core.

INSTALLATION





































1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
^ Lubricate the O-Ring seal with Motorcraft YN-12c Refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
^ Lubricate the replacement A/C evaporator core with the correct amount of Motorcraft YN-12c refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
