Timing Cover: Service and Repair
Removal1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Drain the engine coolant.
3. Remove the accessory drive belt.
4. Remove the water pump pulley.
5. Disconnect the lower radiator hose at the water pump outlet.
6. Remove the crankshaft vibration damper.
7. Remove the oil pan.
8. Remove the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor.
9. Remove the engine front cover.
- Remove the bolts.
10. Remove and discard the front cover gasket.
Installation
1. Clean all sealing surfaces and position a new front cover gasket.
2. Install the engine front cover.
3. Apply Pipe Sealant with Teflon to the bolts to be installed in the locations shown.
- Use Pipe Sealant with Teflon D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specifications ESR-M18P7-A.
4. Install the engine front cover.
- Install the bolts.
5. Install the crankshaft position sensor.
6. Install the oil pan.
7. Connect the lower radiator hose to the water pump outlet.
8. Install the water pump pulley.
9. Install the accessory drive belt.
10. Connect the battery ground cable.
11. Drain the engine oil.
12. Refill the engine with clean Super Premium SAE SW-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.
13. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
