Intake Manifold - Upper

Removal and Installation

CAUTION: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan can cause engine failure.

1. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.






2. Remove the idle air control (IAC) valve.
- Disconnect the IAC valve electrical connector.
- Remove the two bolts and the IAC valve.







3. Remove the fuel line retaining clip and the wire harness pin-type retainers.






4. Remove the alternator wire harness retaining clips.






5. Position the spark plug wires aside.
- Lift the spark plug wire separators.
- Position the spark plug wires aside.

Note: Place a shop cloth on the upper intake manifold to prevent scratching the manifold.






6. Remove the upper intake manifold.
1. Remove the stud bolts.
2. Remove the bolts.
3. Remove the cover.






7. Disconnect the accelerator and speed control cables, then remove the throttle return spring.






8. Remove the bolts and position the bracket and cables aside.






9. Disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector.






10. Disconnect the evaporative emissions return tube.






11. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose.






12. Disconnect the exhaust vacuum regulator (EVR) electrical and vacuum connectors.






13. Disconnect the vacuum hose.






14. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum tube.







15. Disconnect the differential pressure feedback EGR system electrical and vacuum connectors.







16. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose.






17. Remove the upper intake manifold spacer.
- Remove the bolts.
- Remove the intake manifold spacer.










18. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Tighten the upper intake manifold spacer and the upper intake manifold in the sequences shown.
