Installation





1. Position the transaxle on a high lift transmission jack. Apply Multi-Purpose Grease D0AZ-19584-AA meeting Ford specification ESB-M1C93-B or equivalent to the torque converter pilot hub.





2. Install the bracket.





3. Install the rear engine support bracket.
4. Install the transaxle.





5. Install the transaxle retaining bolts.





6. Install the left lower retaining bolt.





7. Install the right lower retaining bolt.
8. Remove the transmission jack.





9. Connect the Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) sensor electrical connector.





10. Connect the Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor electrical connector.





11. Install the LH half shaft.





12. Install the RH half shaft.





13. Install four new torque converter nuts.





14. Install the transaxle housing cover.





15. Install the transaxle inspection cover bolt.





16. Install the starter motor.





17. Install the ground strap.





18. Remove the special tool.
19. Install the sub-frame assembly.
20. Install the three-way catalytic converter assembly.
21. Install the front wheels.
22. Lower the vehicle.





23. Install the rear transaxle mount nut





24. Install the transaxle retaining bolts.





25. Connect the transaxle fluid cooler tubes.





26. Install the retaining clips.





27. Install the upper transaxle fluid filter tube.





28. Connect the harness retainer.





29. On vehicles equipped with the 3.0L engine, remove the spreader bar.





30. On vehicles equipped with the 3.8L engine, remove the three bar support.





31. On vehicles equipped with the 3.8L engine, remove the RH lifting hook.





32. On vehicles equipped with the 3.8L engine, remove the LH lifting hook..





33. On vehicles equipped with the 3.0L engine, remove the spreader bar.





34. On vehicles equipped with the 3.0L engine, remove the three bar support.





35. On vehicles equipped with the 3.0L, engine, remove the LH lifting hook.





36. On vehicles equipped with the 3.0L engine, remove the RH lifting hook.





37. Install the front upper radiator shield.
38. Install the wiper arm and pivot assembly.
39. Install the hood.
40. Verify that the digital transmission range (TR) sensor is correctly adjusted.





41. Install the manual control lever and nut.





42. Install the shift cable in the bracket.





43. Connect the cable to the lever.





44. Reconnect the harness retainer.





45. Connect the AX4S transaxle electrical connector.





46. Connect the digital TR sensor electrical connector.





47. Install the upper fluid filler tube.
48. Install the air cleaner assembly.
49. Install the battery.
50. If equipped, turn the air suspension switch on.
51. Fill the transaxle using MERCON V(R) Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-5-QM or equivalent meeting Ford specification MERCON V(R).
52. Start the engine. Move the transaxle range selector lever through all positions. Check the fluid level.
