Transmission and Drivetrain: Description and Operation
Driveline SystemThe driveline system consists of the following components:
^ driveshaft assembly
^ halfshaft - RH)
^ rear axle housing
^ halfshaft (LH)
On front wheel drive (FWD) vehicles, the transaxle transmits power from the engine to the halfshafts.
On four wheel drive (4WD) vehicles, power is transmitted from the engine through the transaxle to the transfer case. The transfer case transfers engine power Mom the transaxle to the RH front halfshaft and through the driveshaft to the rear axle and halfshafts. The (4X4) AUTO position is intended for normal driving condition, and the (4X4) ON position is intended for 4WD.
The engine angle is built into the engine mounts. If the engine angle is out of specification, the engine mounts must be inspected for damage.
