Installation
EngineRemoval and Installation
1. Using the special tools, remove the engine from the engine stand and position with the transaxle on the subframe.
2. Install the five bolts in the transaxle.
3. Position the halfshaft bracket and install the bolts.
4. Install a new gasket and the RH exhaust manifold.
5. Install the generator.
6. Connect the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) tube and the Heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) electrical connector.
7. Connect the output shaft speed sensor electrical connector.
8. Connect the knock sensor jumper electrical connector.
9. Install the starter.
10. Install the bolt and connect the transaxle control harness to the bracket.
11. Connect the transaxle harness.
12. Connect the transmission range sensor.
13. Connect the heated oxygen sensors.
14. Using the special tools, position the powertrain on the universal powertrain lift.
15. Position the powertrain in the vehicle.
16. Install the four bolts for the motor mount support.
17. Install the two subframe side nuts.
18. Install two rear subframe bolts.
19. NOTE: The next two steps must be carried out with the vehicle raised and the powertrain assembly supported by the lift.
Position the transaxle mount and install the bolts.
20. Install the motor mount bracket the bolts and the nuts.
21. Remove the universal powertrain lift.
22. If equipped connect the block heater wiring.
23. Install the four bolts.
24. Install the four torque converter nuts.
25. Install the inspection plug.
26. Connect the two transmission cooler lines.
27. Install the cooler line bracket bolt.
28. Connect the steering shaft to the rack and install the bolt.
29. Connect the LH and RH struts to the steering knuckles and install the bolts.
30. Install the brake calipers to the steering knuckle.
31. If equipped, position the LH and RH wheel speed sensors and install the bolts.
32. Connect the LH and RH sway bar links to the strut mount.
33. Connect the LH and RH tie rods to the steering knuckle.
34. Connect the LH and,RH ball joints.
35. If equipped, install the intermediate drive shaft.
36. Install both front wheel and tire assemblies.
37. Install the A/C compressor.
38. Install the three way catalytic converter.
39. Install the lower radiator air deflectors.
40. Lower the vehicle.
41. Install the oil level indicator.
42. Connect the power steering line.
- Install the bracket bolt.
- Connect the Power Steering Pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector.
- Connect the power steering line.
43. Connect the power steering return line.
44. Connect the heater hoses.
45. Connect the vacuum line.
46. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose.
47. Connect the transaxle linkage.
48. Install the cables and the nuts.
49. Install the power distribution box cover.
50. Connect the connector to the power distribution box.
51. Position the thermostat housing and connect the five hoses.
52. Connect the ground wire.
53. Connect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) electrical connector.
54. Connect the Vapor Management Valve (VMV) electrical connector.
55. Connect the accelerator cable and speed control actuator cable.
56. Connect the fuel line.
57. Install the air cleaner outlet tube and air cleaner.
58. Install the battery and the battery tray.
59. Install the water pump drive belt.
60. Refill the engine cooling system.
61. Refill the crankcase with oil. SAE 5W-20 Motor Oil XO-5W20-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.
62. Recharge the A/C system.
