Alternator: Description and Operation
The charging system consists of the following components:^ generator
^ integral rear-mounted voltage regulator
^ generator warning lamp
^ associated wiring
The generator and voltage regulator:
^ supplies current to the electrical system.
^ charges the battery.
^ adjusts the generator field current to increase or decrease generator output.
^ turns the generator warning lamp on when a problem is detected in the charging system.
