ISSUE

Some vehicles equipped with a 4R70W automatic transmission exhibiting a no forward or a delayed engagement may have a damaged forward clutch. This may be caused by rapid, Drive (D) to Reverse (R) engagements before the automatic transmission fluid reaches a normal operating temperatures and by Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration causing a lack of Forward Clutch pressure and insufficient lubrication.

ACTION

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Follow normal diagnostic procedures and verify the condition.

1. If the condition is valid, first repair all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that may be present

2. Then repair all internal transmission components as required.

3. Clear all DTCs and validate the repair.

4. Follow the procedures found in the Powertrain Control Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Workshop Manual and reprogram the PCM to the latest level calibration. Refer to the PCM Calibration information chart.
