Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair

EGO Sensor Wrench:

SPECIAL SERVICE TOOL(S)

REMOVAL

NOTE: The 5.0L RH is shown, the 4.0L SOHC and the 4.0L (push rod) engines are similar.

1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Maintenance/Service and Repair.







2. Remove the bolts and the skid plate.
3. Remove the Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC). For additional information, refer to Catalytic Converter.







4. Using the special tool, remove the HO2S.

NOTE: If necessary, lubricate the HO2S with Penetrating and Lock Lubricant E8AZ-19A501-B or equivalent to assist in removal.

INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE: Apply a light coat of High Temperature Nickel Anti-Sieze Lubricant F6AZ-9L494-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M12A4-A to the threads of the HO2S.
