Shift Cable: Service and Repair

Selector Lever Cable

Removal
1. Raise and support the vehicle.

2. CAUTION: Excessive bending of the flexible exhaust pipe may cause damage resulting in failure. Support the flexible exhaust pipe with a support wrap or suitable splint.





Support the flexible exhaust pipe, using a suitable wrap.





3. Disconnect the exhaust pipe and detach from the hanger insulator.
^ Remove and discard the gasket.





4. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor II electrical connector.
^ Remove the wiring protection.




5. Remove and lower the heat shield.
^ Unclip the selector lever cable.





6. Disconnect the selector lever cable from the selector lever assembly.
1. Open the adjuster assembly by turning the selector lever cable outer sleeve.
2. Disconnect the selector lever cable from the TR sensor bracket.
3. Remove the selector lever cable from the bracket.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Remove the floor console.





9. Remove the selector lever cable from the selector.
1. Shift the selector lever to "P".
2. Unclip the selector lever cable.
3. Unclip the selector lever cable outer sleeve.




10. Remove the footwell heater channel.





11. Remove the center console front cover (left-hand side shown).
^ Remove the screws.
^ Unclip the front cover.





12. Remove the heater housing cover (right-hand side shown).
^ Unclip the four clips.
^ Remove the two screws.





13. Open the floor carpet and the insulator material and position it to one side (heat exchanger removed shown).

14. NOTE: Before pulling through the selector lever cable, tie a wire to the selector lever cable transaxle end.





Remove the selector lever cable grommet.

Installation

1. NOTE: Tie the selector lever cable to the pulled in wire and pull the selector lever cable in position.





Install the selector lever cable grommet.





2. Secure the insulator material and the floor carpet with adhesive strap (head exchanger removed shown).




3. Install the heater housing cover (right-hand side shown).
^ Locate the four clips.
^ Install the two screws.





4. Install the center console front cover (left-hand side shown).
^ Clip in the front cover.
^ Install the screws.





5. Install the footwell heater channel.





6. Install the selector cable to the selector lever.
1. Shift the selector lever to "P".
2. Clip in the selector lever cable outer sleeve.
3. Clip in the selector lever cable.

7. Install the floor console.
8. Raise and support the vehicle.





9. Connect the selector lever cable to the selector lever assembly.
1. Position the selector lever cable.
2. Connect the selector lever cable to the TR sensor bracket.
^ Shift the selector lever in "D".
3. Secure the adjuster assembly by turning the selector lever cable outer sleeve.
^ Secure the selector lever cable to the floor pan.





10. Clip the selector lever cable into the right-hand side of the bracket.





11. Install the heat shield.




12. Connect the heated oxygen sensor II electrical connector.
^ Install the wiring protection.

13. NOTE: Install a new gasket.





Install the exhaust pipe in the hanger insulators and connect the exhaust pipe.





14. Remove the support wrap.
15. Adjust the selector lever cable.
