Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Disc Check

Disc Check

Special Tool(s)

1. NOTE: Install a new clutch disc if any of these conditions are present. Always install a new clutch pressure plate when installing a new clutch.

NOTE: For clutch discs that have oil or grease contamination, eliminate the source of the contamination.

NOTE: If the clutch disc springs are loose enough to rattle they will not cause noise when the vehicle is operating.

Inspect the clutch for the following:
^ oil or grease contamination
^ worn or loose facings
^ distortion
^ broken springs
^ burrs or uneven wear on the splines
^ wear or damage on the clutch disc surface

2. Check for a worn clutch disc lining. Measure the minimum allowable depth to the rivet heads with a slide caliper.
^ Check for loose clutch disc lining rivets.

3. Using the special tools, check the maximum allowable runout of the clutch disc.

4. Use an emery cloth to remove minor imperfections in the clutch disc lining surface.
5. Check for wear or rust on the splines. If necessary, clean them with an emery cloth.
