Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

Wrench, Fuel Tank Lock Ring:

SPECIAL TOOL(S)

REMOVAL
1. Remove the fuel tank.
2. Clean the area around the fuel pump mounting flange.







3. Using the special tool, remove the fuel tank pump assembly locking retainer ring.

NOTE: 2.5L shown, 2.3L, 3.0L and 4.0L are similar.


4. Remove the fuel pump assembly.

CAUTION: The fuel pump assembly must be removed and handled carefully to avoid damage to the float arm and filter.


5. Remove and discard the fuel pump mounting gasket.

INSTALLATION
1. Clean the fuel pump mounting flange and the fuel tank mounting surface.
2. Install a new fuel pump mounting gasket.







3. Using the special tool, tighten the fuel pump assembly locking retainer ring.

NOTE: 2.5L shown, 2.3L, 3.0L and 4.0L are similar.

4. Install the fuel tank.
