Alternator: Description and Operation

NOTE: The 7.3L diesel engine is available with an optional package that comes with dual generators of the same type as the standard 7.3L diesel package with dual batteries standard.

The charging system consists of the following components:
^ generator
^ an internal voltage regulator that is not repaired separately
^ generator warning lamp
^ associated wiring

The generator and voltage regulator:
^ supplies current to the electrical system.
^ charges the battery.
^ adjusts the generator field current to increase or decrease generator output.
^ turns the generator warning lamp on when a problem is detected in the charging system.
