Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair

Crankshaft Pulley





Special Tool(s)

Removal
1. Remove the engine cooling fan.
2. Rotate the tensioner clockwise and remove the drive belt.
3. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.





4. Detach the lower radiator hose from the two clips.





5. Remove the bolts and the lower fan shroud.





6. Use the special tool to hold the crankshaft pulley and remove the crankshaft pulley bolt.





7. Use the special tool to remove the crankshaft pulley.

Installation





1. NOTE: If not secured within four minutes, sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with metal surface cleaner.

Apply silicone gasket and sealant to the Woodruff key slot on the crankshaft pulley.





2. Use the special tool to install the crankshaft pulley.





3. Install the bolt and washer. Using the special tool to hold the crankshaft pulley, tighten the bolt in four stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 2: Loosen the bolt.
- Stage 3: Tighten to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 4: Tighten an additional 90 degrees.





4. Position the lower radiator shroud and install the bolts.





5. Attach the lower radiator hose from the two clips.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Install the drive belt.
8. Install the engine cooling fan.
