NOTE: Ford does not provide timing marks or additional information for servicing of the timing chains/sprockets without the special tools listed in this procedure.
Timing Drive Components - Camshaft Drive Cassette, LH
Special Tool(s):
Removal
1. Remove the intake manifold.
2. Remove the LH valve cover.
3. Remove the RH valve cover.
4. Remove the fuel supply manifold.
5. Remove the engine front cover.
6. Remove the thermostat housing.
7. Remove all of the roller followers.
8. NOTE: You must retime the LH and RH camshafts when either camshaft is disturbed.
Turn the crankshaft clockwise to position number one cylinder at TDC.
9. Remove the LH camshaft chain tensioner.
10. Loosen the LH camshaft sprocket bolt.
- Install the special tools to hold the camshaft sprocket.
- Loosen but do not remove the bolt.
11. Remove the tool and bolt.
12. Hold the crankshaft from turning and loosen the jackshaft sprocket bolt.
13. Remove the primary chain tensioner.
14. Remove the primary chain and jackshaft sprocket.
15. Remove the camshaft drive cassette.
1 Remove the chain guide bolts.
2 Remove the sprockets.
3 Lift the chain and guide up and out of the cylinder head.
16. Clean all surfaces. Clean all foreign material from engine.
Installation
1. Install the chain guide through the cylinder head.
2. Install the chain.
3. Install the new chain guide bolts.
4. NOTE: The camshaft chain sprockets must be orientated correctly.
Install the lower chain sprocket and the camshaft sprocket.
5. Install, but do not tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt.
6. Install the primary chain and gear.
7. Install the primary drive chain tensioner.
8. Hold the crankshaft from turning and tighten the jackshaft sprocket bolt in two stages.
^ Stage 1: Tighten bolts to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.).
^ Stage 2: Tighten bolts an additional 90 degrees.
9. Install the engine front cover.
10. Time the engine.
