Brake CaliperRemoval
CAUTION: If brake fluid is spilt on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water.
1. Loosen the wheel nuts.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Remove the wheel.
4. Detach the brake hose from the support bracket.
5. Loosen the brake hose.
6. Remove the front brake pads.
7. CAUTION: Cap the brake hose to prevent fluid loss and dirt contamination.
Disconnect the caliper from the brake hose.
Installation
1. NOTE: After installation, bleed the brake system.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Brake Caliper
Disassembly
1. Remove the brake caliper.
2. CAUTION: Place a block of wood or some shop rags between the caliper piston and the caliper housing as damage to the caliper piston may result.
Extract the caliper piston from the caliper housing using compressed air.
3. Remove the caliper piston.
4. Remove the discard the dust seal.
5. Remove and discard the piston seal.
6. Inspect the caliper piston and the piston bore for pitting or scoring and install a new piston as necessary.
Assembly
1. Lubricate the piston bore, piston seal and the caliper piston with high performance DOT 3 brake fluid meeting Ford specification.
2. NOTE: The caliper seal fits into a machined groove in the piston bore.
Install a new piston seal into the piston bore.
3. Install a new dust seal onto the caliper piston.
4. CAUTION: Do not scratch or damage the caliper piston when installing it into the caliper bore.
Install the caliper piston into the caliper bore.
5. Seat the dust seal.
6. Install the brake caliper.
