Inspection and Verification
1. Verify the customer concern by checking the air bag indicator in the instrument cluster.
Visual Inspection Chart:
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.
3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
4. Using the diagnostic tool, retrieve DTCs and carry out the On-Demand Self-Test. On-Demand Self Test
5. If the On-Demand Self-Test is passed and no DTCs are retrieved, proceed to the Symptom Chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
6. If DTCs are retrieved, proceed to the Air Bag Control Module DTC Index. Diagnostic Trouble Code Tests and Associated Procedures
WARNING:
^ ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN REPAIRING AN AIR BAG SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) VEHICLE AND WHEN HANDLING AN AIR BAG MODULE. THIS WILL REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT.
^ NEVER PROBE THE CONNECTORS ON THE AIR BAG MODULE. DOING SO CAN RESULT IN AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, WHICH CAN RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.
