COMPONENT TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS AND SEQUENCES





Intake Manifold
Tightening Torque: 25 Nm (18 ft.lb)

Left Side:





LH Cylinder Head

NOTE: The cylinder head bolts are a torque-to-yield design and must not be reused. Always install new bolts.

Install and tighten the bolts in five stages in the sequence shown.
- Stage 1: Install finger-tight.
- Stage 2: Tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 3: Tighten to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 4: Tighten to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.) and an additional 90°.
- Stage 5: Tighten an additional 90°.





Install the bolts on the rear of the cylinder head.





NOTE: The cylinder head bolts are a torque-to-yield design and must not be reused. Always install new bolts.

Install and tighten the bolts in two stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 2: Tighten an additional 90°.


Right Side:





RH Cylinder Head

NOTE: The cylinder head bolts are a torque-to-yield design and must not be reused.

Always install new bolts.
- Install and tighten the bolts in five stages in the sequence shown.
- Stage 1: Install finger-tight.
- Stage 2: Tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 3: Tighten to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 4: Tighten to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.) and an additional 90°.
- Stage 5: Tighten an additional 90°.





Install the stud bolts on the rear of the cylinder head.





NOTE: The cylinder head bolts are a torque-to-yield design and must not be reused. Always install new bolts.

Install and tighten the bolts in two stages
- Stage 1: Tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 2: Tighten an additional 90°.

Left Side:





LH Camshaft Bearing Cap

CAUTION: Install the camshaft bearing caps. The camshaft bearing caps are positional and must be installed in their original locations and orientations or engine damage may occur.

Tighten the bolts in three stages in the sequence shown.
- Stage 1: Hand-tighten.
- Stage 2: Tighten to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).
- Stage 3: Tighten an additional 90°.

Right Side:





RH Camshaft Bearing Cap

CAUTION: Install the camshaft bearing caps. The camshaft bearing caps are positional and must be installed in their original locations and orientations or engine damage may occur. Install the RH camshaft bearing caps.

Position the bearing caps. Install the bolts. Tighten the bolts in three stages in the sequence shown.
- Stage 1: Hand-tighten.
- Stage 2: Tighten to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).
- Stage 3: Tighten an additional 90°.






Flex Plate
- Stage 1: Tighten to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 2: Tighten to 110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.).

Crankshaft Pulley Bolt
Install a new bolt and tighten in four stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 2: Loosen the bolt two complete turns.
- Stage 3: Tighten to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 4: Tighten an additional 90°.






LH Exhaust Camshaft Sprocket Bolt

NOTE: The exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt must be fully tightened before tightening the intake camshaft sprocket bolt.

Using the special tool, apply 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) counterclockwise to the LH exhaust camshaft sprocket and tighten the camshaft sprocket bolts in two stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 2: Tighten an additional 90°.






RH Exhaust Camshaft Sprocket Bolt

NOTE: The exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt must be fully tightened before tightening the intake camshaft sprocket bolt.

Using the special tool, apply 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) counterclockwise to the RH exhaust camshaft sprocket and tighten the camshaft sprocket bolts in two stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 2: Tighten an additional 90°.

Water Pump
Install a new gasket and the water pump, and tighten the bolts in two stages:
- Stage 1: Tighten to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).
- Stage 2: Tighten an additional 90°.
