Attachment V - Tire Recovery and Recycling Process: Overview
Tire Recovery and Recycling ProcessRecovery Technology Group (RTG), under contract with Ford Motor Company, will pick-up all program tires at Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealerships. These tires will be collected and processed into crumb rubber for inclusion in such products as rubberized asphalt, sports practice surfaces and molded & extruded rubber products among others. The following is an outline of the pick-up process:
Preparing Tires for Pick-up
1. Tires removed from vehicles must immediately be made unusable by either cutting the bead with bolt cutters or drilling a one-inch diameter hole through the sidewall. Do not stack tires and disable them at a later time. Be certain the tire can no longer hold air
NOTE:
RTG will provide Ford a report identifying dealerships not properly disabling tires.
2. Store all affected take-off Firestone Steeltex Radial A/T LT265/75R16 LR D Tires in an area separated from other non-recall tires.
Tires should be kept as clean and dry as reasonably possible.
SCHEDULING PICK-UP
3. As soon as you have 25 or more tires, contact RTG toll-free at 1-866-660-0822 to schedule a pick-up. Be prepared to confirm your dealership name, address, telephone, tire count, FCSD Region, P & A Code and contact information.
If your volume of re placement is small, RTG will pick-up quantities less then 25 as needed; however please work with RTG to make the process as efficient as possible by holding tires until you have 25 or more. This includes retail tires if you choose to use RTG.
NOTE:
RTG will give you the option of having your non-safety campaign tires picked up as well. The agreement to do so, and the price per tire, will be between RTG and the dealership. Ford will not be involved in any non-ONP arrangement between RTG and our dealers. Pricing for RTG pick-up of non-ONP tires will most likely be regionally based with dealer density and tire volume as factors in the final pricing. Questions regarding pricing should be directed to RTG's toll-free call center at 1-866-660-0822
4. After you call RTG to schedule pick-up; your local RTG or RTG contracted supplier will contact you by telephone to confirm initial tire pick-up. The Service Manager and/or Parts Manager will be contacted.
PICK-UP DAY
5. RTG or a RTG contracted hauler will count and load the tires onto the trailer/truck.
6. RTG or a RTG contracted driver will present to you a RTG Manifest A dealership employee will be required to sign the manifest when the trailer/truck has been loaded. The RTG representative will give a copy of the manifest to the dealership's designated employee for your records. This is the only paperwork the dealership will be required to complete relative to disposal.
NOTE:
It is possible that the truck/trailer arriving at a dealership will not be a RTG marked truck as RTG does sub-contract in some markets. Dealership personnel should look for the RTG manifest and should not release tires to anyone without the RTG manifest. If in question, please immediately contact RTG at 866-660-0822.
