Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair

Crankshaft Pulley and Crankshaft Seal





Special Tool(s)

1. Remove the engine cooling fan.





2. To remove individual components, carry out only the listed steps.
3. Remove the components in the order indicated.





4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
5. Install the engine cooling fan.

Item 1: Accessory Drive Belt Removal Note





1. Rotate the tensioner clockwise and remove the drive belt.

Item 2: Lower Radiator Shroud Bolts Removal Note





1. Detach the lower radiator hose from the two clips.

Item 4: Crankshaft Pulley Bolt Removal Note





1. Use the special tool to hold the crankshaft pulley and remove the crankshaft pulley bolt.

Item 5: Crankshaft Pulley Removal Note





1. Use the special tool to remove crankshaft pulley.

Item 6: Crankshaft Front Seal Removal Note





1. Remove the front cover seal with the special tools.

Item 6: Crankshaft Front Seal Installation Note





1. Lubricate the front cover and the crankshaft front seal inner lip with clean engine oil.
2. Install the crankshaft front seal using the special tool.

Item 5: Crankshaft Pulley Installation Note





1. Install the crankshaft pulley within four minutes of applying silicone gasket and sealant to the Woodruff key slot.
2. Using the special tool, install the crankshaft pulley.

Item 4: Crankshaft Pulley Bolt Installation Note





1. Install the bolt and washer. Using the special tool to hold the crankshaft pulley, tighten the bolt in four stages:
^ Stage 1: Tighten the bolt to 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs.).
^ Stage 2: Loosen the bolt one full turn.
^ Stage 3: Tighten the bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
^ Stage 4: Tighten the bolt an additional 90 degrees without exceeding 200 Nm (148 ft. lbs.).
