Camshaft Roller Follower and Hydraulic Lash Adjuster





Special Tool(s)

Removal and Installation
1. Remove the valve covers.
2. Remove the cooling fan.

3. NOTE: Remove any foreign material from the spark plug wells with compressed air before removing the spark plugs.

Remove the spark plugs.





4. To remove individual components, carry out only the listed steps.
5. Remove the components in the order indicated.

6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
7. Install the spark plugs.
^ Tighten to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the cooling fan.
9. Install the valve covers.

Item 1: Camshaft Roller Followers Removal Note





1. Disconnect the electrical connectors, remove the bolts, and the LH and RH ignition coils.
^ Tilt the coils away from the fuel injection supply manifold to remove.





2. Rotate the crankshaft until the cam lobe is directly away from the roller follower.





3. Install the special tool between the valve spring coils to prevent valve stem seal damage.





4. NOTE: The three rear - most followers on the RH side must use special tool 303 - 567 in the same manner as is shown in the illustration.

NOTE: The roller followers and hydraulic lash adjusters are positional. Mark the followers and lash adjusters for installation in their original locations.

Using the special tool, compress the valve springs and remove the camshaft roller followers.

1. Rotate the crankshaft until the cam lobe is directly away from the roller followers





2. NOTE: Install the roller followers into their original locations.

NOTE: Use special tool 303 - 567 to install the three rear - most followers on the RH cylinder head.

Using the special tool, compress the valve springs and install the camshaft roller followers.





3. Install the LH and RH ignition coils and electrical connectors.
