Headliner: Service and Repair
HEADLINERTorx Bit, Safety Belt Bolt:
SPECIAL TOOL(S)
REMOVAL
All vehicles
1. WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, cautions, notes, and instructions in the supplemental restraint system (SRS) deactivation/reactivation procedure.
If equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS), deactivate the SRS.
2. Remove the overhead console.
3. If equipped with a roof opening panel, remove the roof opening panel gimp.
4. Remove the two sun visors.
1 Remove the six screws.
2 Remove the two sun visors.
- If equipped, disconnect the electrical connectors.
5. Remove the two sun visor brackets.
1 Remove the two screws.
2 Remove the two sun visor brackets.
6. Remove the A-pillar assist handles.
- Remove the caps and bolts.
7. Remove the A-pillar assist handles.
8. Remove the windshield side garnish mouldings.
9. Remove the B-pillar trim panel.
10. Remove the C-pillar trim panel.
11. Remove the interior lamp lens.
12. Remove the screws and the interior lamp.
Sport
13. Using the special tool, remove the rear shoulder safety belt guide bolt.
14. CAUTION: To prevent damage to the coat hook retainer, use a 3/16-inch flat-blade screwdriver for this step.
Remove the four coat hooks.
- Open the access cover.
- Insert a screwdriver into the coat hook slot and turn the screwdriver 90 degrees so that it engages in the plastic component slot. This will spread the steal attachment clip wings to allow the plastic component to disengage. The steal clip will stay engaged in the sheet metal.
15. Remove the headliner rear pin-type retainer.
Sport Trac
16. Remove the six assist handle bolt covers.
17. Remove the three assist handles.
1 Remove the six bolts.
2 Remove the three assist handles.
18. NOTE: The headliner is removed through the passenger side front door.
Remove the passenger seat.
All vehicles
19. Remove the headliner.
INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Transfer components as necessary.
