Fuel Tank Removal and Installation

REMOVAL

WARNING: DO NOT SMOKE, CARRY LIGHTED TOBACCO OR OPEN FLAME OF ANY TYPE WHEN WORKING ON OR NEAR ANY FUEL-RELATED COMPONENT. HIGHLY FLAMMABLE MIXTURES ARE ALWAYS PRESENT AND MAY BE IGNITED, RESULTING IN POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.

All vehicles
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Release the fuel system pressure.
3. Drain the fuel tank.

4x4 vehicle







4. Remove the fuel tank skid plate bolts.







5. Remove the fuel tank skid plate rear LH bolt.







6. Remove the fuel tank skid plate rear RH bolt and lower the fuel tank skid plate.

All vehicles







7. Use a suitable jack to support the fuel tank.







8. Remove the bolt and position the fuel tank support strap aside.







9. Remove the bolt and position the fuel tank support bracket aside.







10. Remove the bolt and push the fuel tank back until the lip clears the support bracket.







11. Lower the fuel tank just enough to expose the fuel and vapor hoses.







12. Disconnect the vapor hose.







13. Disconnect the fuel tank electrical supply connector near the frame rail. Lower the fuel tank.







14. Disconnect the fuel hoses.
15. Remove the fuel tank.

INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
