Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair
Exhaust ManifoldRemoval
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
3. Remove the exhaust flange nuts.
4. Lower the vehicle,
5. Remove the drive belt.
6. Drain the cooling system.
7. Disconnect the upper radiator hose and the engine reservoir hose.
8. Remove the A/C compressor.
9. Disconnect the heater water hose.
10. Remove the oil indicator and the upper bolt for the tube assembly.
11. Remove the lower bolt and remove the oil indicator tube assembly.
12. Remove the bolts and the front radiator tube.
13. Raise the vehicle.
14. Remove the pushpins and position the right inner fender splash shield out of the way.
15. Disconnect the alternator electrical connectors.
16. Remove the lower Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) mounting bolts.
17. Lower the vehicle.
18. Remove the upper mounting bolt and the FEAD assembly.
19. Remove the two nuts and position the coolant tube out of the way.
20. NOTE: Engine removed for clarity.
Remove the nuts and the exhaust manifold.
21. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket.
Installation
1. Install the exhaust manifold gasket,
2. Install the exhaust manifold and the nuts.
3. Position the coolant tube and install the nuts.
4. NOTE: Raise and lower the vehicle as necessary to access the bolts.
Position the FEAD bracket and install the bolts in the sequence shown in two stages.
^ Stage 1: Install the bolts finger tight.
^ Stage 2: Tighten the bolts to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
5. Connect the alternator electrical connectors.
6. Position the right inner splash shield and install the pushpins.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Install the upper radiator tube and install the bolts.
9. Install the oil indicator tube assembly and the lower bolt.
10. Install the oil indicator tube upper bolt and the oil indicator.
11. Connect the heater water hose.
12. Install the A/C compressor.
13. Connect the upper radiator hose and the engine reservoir hose.
14. Fill the cooling system.
15. Install the serpentine drive belt.
16. Raise the vehicle.
17. Install the exhaust flange nuts.
18. Lower the vehicle.
19. Connect the battery ground cable.
