ISSUE
Some vehicles built between 7/29/02 and 10/28/02 may exhibit any of the following conditions:

^ Visible damage to the pad and plunger for the sliding doors

^ Intermittent speaker malfunction or a complete disconnect

^ Malfunction sliding door power lock

^ Malfunction detent signal on a power sliding door

This may be caused by the pad and plunger assembly.

ACTION
Replace both side pad and plungers with the updated Service Kit 3F2Z-14A658-AAA for the 4 pin Pad and Plunger or 3F2Z-14A658-BAA for the 7 pin Pad and Plunger. Refer to the following Service Information for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Perform normal diagnostics for any of the following conditions:

1. Visible damage to the pad and plunger.

2. Intermittent speaker malfunction or a complete disconnect.

3. Malfunction of the sliding door locks.

4. Malfunction of the detent signal on a power sliding door.

Replace both side door pad and plungers with the following Service kits:

^ SF2Z-14A658-AAA for the 4 pin pad and plunger

^ 3F2Z-14A658-BAA for the 7 pin pad and plunger

NOTE
THE BODY HARNESS 14A005 AND THE DOOR HARNESS 14632 CONNECTORS TO THESE PLUNGERS AND PLATES ARE NOT COMPATIBLE FOR VEHICLES BUILT BETWEEN 7/29/02 AND 10/28/02. THE SERVICE KIT RELEASED INCLUDES THE CONNECTORS FOR THE HARNESS MODIFICATION.

The Service kit includes:

^ The instruction sheet

^ 2 sets of adaptor jumpers/pigtails

^ 8 rivets

^ 2 sliding door harness assemblies

^ 2 sliding door contacts

^ 2 sliding door plungers

Kit contains enough parts to do both side sliding doors.

For all other 2003 Windstar vehicles built outside this date range, the pad and plungers are available separately for service. Replace the pad and plunger per the service instructions and the Workshop Manual.
