System Specifications

Cylinder Head and Valve Train
Combustion chamber volume 51.5-52.5 cc (3.14-3.20 cu inch)
Cylinder heads bolts a
Exhaust manifold nuts 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
Exhaust manifold studs 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.)
Exhaust manifold to EGR valve tube fittings
Exhaust manifold-to-Y-pipe nuts 40 Nm (30 ft.






Intake Manifold
Tighten the 11 bolts in two stages in the sequence shown.
Tighten to 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.)
Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)






Camshaft sprocket bolts
Tighten the bolt.
Tighten in two stages.
Tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)
Tighten additional 90 degrees.







Camshaft bearing cap bolts - 4.6L 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.)

Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.







Camshaft bearing cap bolts - 5.4L 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.)

Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.

Cylinder Head

NOTE: The RH cylinder head is shown; the LH cylinder head is similar.

Left Cylinder Head Torque Sequence:





Tighten the bolts in sequence in three stages.
Tighten the LH bolts in the sequence shown.
Tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
Tighten additional 90 degrees.
Tighten additional 90 degrees.

Right Cylinder Head Torque Sequence:





Tighten the bolts in three stages.
Tighten the RH bolts in the sequence shown.
Tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
Tighten additional 90 degrees.
Tighten additional 90 degrees.





Exhaust Manifold RH
Exhaust manifold nuts 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)

NOTE: 4.6L engine shown; 5.4L engine similar.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Tighten the exhaust manifold nuts in the sequence shown.





Exhaust Manifold LH
Exhaust manifold nuts 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)

NOTE: 4.6L is shown, 5.4L is similar.
Tighten the nuts in the sequence shown.
