Attachment III - Recalibration
MODULE RECALIBRATION
NOTE:
This recalibration, using WDS software version B41.8 or higher or B42.1 or higher, will update the PCM, TCM and FICM. This new calibration is not included in the 542 CD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
NOTE:
The calibration used to update this population of 6.0L diesel vehicles will deactivate the function of the ER sensor and replace it with Inputs from other sensors (BARO, MAP, MAF, EOT); therefore, it is not necessary to replace the ER sensor now, or in the future.
1. Connect a battery charger to the vehicle.
2. VERIFY THE WDS IS LOADED WITH SOFTWARE VERSION B41.8 OR HIGHER OR B42.1 OR HIGHER. [NEW] NOTE: WDS software VERSION B42.1 or higher includes additional PID information. It is recommended this version be used if possible.
3. Remove the FICM relay from the power distribution box (PDB). Removal of this relay will not prevent the FICM from receiving the updates; it will only prevent unnecessary firing of the injector coils.
4. Select Module Programming and follow the WDS display Instructions.
^ If unable to recalibrate the modules:
- module replacement will not be covered under this program.
- prior to disconnecting the WDS from the vehicle and closing the session, call the Special Service Support Center.
5. Reinstall the FICM relay when the WDS displays Instructions prompting the user to start the vehicle.
6. Perform a self-test to verify there are no further concerns.
7. Proceed to Road Test Procedure in this Attachment III.
[NEW] ROAD TEST PROCEDURE
Check OASIS to verify there are no other Field Service Actions applicable to this vehicle prior to performing the Road Test Procedure.
NOTE:
Allow the vehicle to idle for 5 minutes in PARK before performing the test drive. The purpose of this idle time is to allow the PCM to learn the adaptive VGT strategy.
Test drive the vehicle to make sure no drivability concerns exist prior to returning the vehicle to the owner:
^ This test drive must be of sufficient length to achieve EOT reading of a minimum 54°C (13 F).
^ The NEW WDS PIDs available in WDS software version B42.1 or higher include a PID named VGTLRN_ OK which will change to "YES" when the learn process has completed. DO NOT release the vehicle until this process has completed.
^ If the VGTLRN_ OK fails to complete (does not read "YES"), it may be necessary to perform a KAM clear. Cycle the key 2 times (allow the wait to start lamp to time out between each key cycle) and allow the engine to idle for an additional 5 minutes (with EOT above 54°C [130°F]).
NOTE:
To address any customer concerns for vehicles that are out of warranty and exhibit engine performance issues after the road test and learn procedure, please follow the guidelines in the Warranty and Policy Manual.
[NEW] If necessary, for additional information on the NEW P10 data available after this calibration update, please visit Power Stroke Central on the PTS Website.
AUTHORIZED MODIFICATIONS LABEL INSTALLATION
1. Obtain and prepare the Authorized Modifications Label. Describe the modification performed, and enter your P&A Code, date of repair and the program type and program number. See Figure 1.
PROOF OF CORRECTION CERTIFICATE
1. Provide the owners of vehicles registered in California and Massachusetts with a completed "Vehicle Emissions Recall - Proof of Correction" certificate. See Figure 2.
