Forward Geartrain Assembly Service
NOTE:This Forward Geartrain Assembly Service procedure has been developed to coincide specifically with replacing the reverse planet assembly when there is no damage to the output hub.
If a complete overhaul is required, refer instead to Section 307-01B of the 2004 F-SD/Excursion Workshop Manual or 307-01C of the 2004 E-Series Workshop Manual for repair instructions.
1. Remove the center support bearing assembly and the No. 6 thrust bearing from the forward clutch/direct clutch assembly.
2. Remove the Special Tools Coast Clutch Fixture Handle 307-384 and Coast Clutch Fixture Body 307-385. See Figure 38.
3. Remove the intermediate clutch plates and the pressure plate. See Figure 39.
4. Position the forward clutch assembly and the direct clutch assembly as shown. See Figure 40.
5. Install the No. 10 forward clutch bearing. See Figure 41.[NEW]
6. Install the forward hub and ring gear assembly. See Figure 42.
7. Lightly lubricate thrust bearing No.11 using petroleum jelly to hold it in place on the forward planet. See Figure 43.
8. Install the forward planet carrier and bearing assembly. See Figure 44.
9. Install the No. 12 thrust bearing onto the forward carrier assembly. See Figure 45.
10. Install the input shell assembly. See Figure 46.
^ Make sure the tab is engaged in the forward clutch assembly.
11. Install Special Tools Transmission Forward Clutch Assembly Installer 307-436 and Bridge Adapter 307-436-01. Position the assembly aside to use during transmission assembly. See Figure 47.
