Attachment III - Technical Information: Overview

This program involves installing a service kit, referred to as Kit # 1 containing a reverse planet assembly and various other components in the Torqshift transmission on the affected vehicles. Kit # 1 includes the following components:

^ Reverse Planet Assembly

^ Solenoid Body-to-Case Gasket

^ Snap Ring - Reverse Clutch-to-Case

^ Pump OD Seal

^ Pump-to-Case Gasket

^ Sump Filter

^ Remote Filter Element

^ Front Pump Bolts

Some Reverse Planet Kit # 1's contain zero, two (2) or nine (9) of the 7N134 front pump bolts. Nine (9) are required per repair. If nine 7N134 front pump bolts are not included in Kit # 1 they must be ordered separately.

Also, approximately 15 quarts of MERCON SP(R) Automatic Transmission Fluid (XT-6-QSP) will be required to complete this repair.

Upon disassembly, when the reverse planet assembly is removed, a visual inspection of the output hub will determine if further repairs are necessary. If the output hub is damaged, the transmission must be completely disassembled. In addition to Kit # 1 a second service kit, referred to as Kit # 2, containing various components must be installed along with any components identified as damaged due to contamination. Kit # 2 includes the following components:

^ Output Hub

^ No. 14 Thrust Washer

^ PC-A Pressure Control Solenoid

^ In-Line Filter Kit

In addition to these two (2) kits, the Oil-to-Air cooler must be replaced. Also, approximately three (3) additional quarts of MERCON SP(R) Automatic Transmission Fluid (XT-6-QSP) will be required to complete this repair.

Please note that a very small percentage of the vehicles requiring Kit # 2 will already have an in-line filter installed. For these vehicles, use all the applicable components in the kit (the hoses, clamps and filter). Do not just replace the filter element.

NOTE:
In an effort to save time, plug in the Rotunda Turbo-Tank Heated Cooler Flusher (222-00001) and turn on the heater well in advance of needing to flush the cooling system. The flusher takes up to one hour to heat to operating temperature.
