Pedal Positioning Motor: Service and Repair
Brake Pedal1. NOTE: When removing the adjustable pedal assembly, make sure that the pedals are adjusted to the full forward position.
Disconnect the battery.
2. Remove the parts in the order indicated in the following illustration and table.

To remove individual parts, only carry out the listed steps:
3. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
4. Inspect the brake system for correct operation.
Item 1: Speed Control Deactivator Switch Removal Note
1. CAUTION: The brake pedal must be connected to the booster rod, in an at-rest position, before removing the speed control deactivator switch or the switch will be damaged.
Remove the switch.
Item 7: Brake Booster Nuts Removal Note
1. Position the brake master cylinder and booster assembly forward to allow the brake pedal assembly to clear the studs.
Item 12: Pedal and Bracket Assembly Removal Note
1. Remove the wiper arms.
- Raise the wiper arm to the vertical position, then pull outward to release the retainer.
2. Remove the cowl grille.
- The grille is secured with 14 spring clips. Pull upward on the grille to release the clips.
3. Remove the instrument panel support bolt.
4. Remove the front console.
5. Remove the four instrument panel support bracket screws.
6. Remove the door scuff plates.
7. Remove the retainer and the A-pillar lower trim panels.
8. Remove the instrument panel side finish panels.
9. Remove the caps.
10. Remove the bolts and the assist handles.
11. Remove the windshield side garnish moulding.
12. Remove the defroster grille.
13. Remove the instrument panel support bolts.
14. Remove the screws and the finish panel.
15. CAUTION: Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate while the steering column intermediate shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring can result. If there is evidence that the steering column shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered.
Secure the steering wheel to prevent it from rotating.
16. Remove the bolt and separate the steering shafts.
17. Remove the instrument panel support bolts.
18. Pull the instrument panel approximately 25.4 mm (1 inch) away from the dash panel.
19. Remove the adjustable brake pedal assembly.
Item 13: Adjustable Pedal Motor Screws Removal Note
1. Do not discard the screws. These screws must be used to reinstall the adjustable pedal motor.
Item 14: Adjustable Pedal Motor Removal Note
1. Make sure that the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal are in the same position before disconnecting the drive cable from the adjustable pedal motor.

1. Make sure that the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal are in the same position before connecting the drive cable to the adjustable pedal motor.
