FRONT SEAT BACKREST - WITH SEAT INTEGRATED RESTRAINTS (SIR)

DISASSEMBLY

WARNING: The safety belt pretensioner is a pyrotechnic device. Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag equipped vehicle and when handling a safety belt buckle pretensioner or safety belt retractor pretensioner. Never probe a pretensioner electrical connector. Doing so could result in pretensioner or air bag deployment and could result in personal injury.

NOTE: Driver seat is shown, passenger seat is similar.

1. WARNING: To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, the backup power supply must be depleted before repairing or replacing any front or side air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) components and before servicing, replacing, adjusting or striking components near the front or side air bag sensors, such as doors, instrument panel, console, door latches, strikers, seats and hood latches.

The front impact severity sensor is located at the bottom of the hood latch support bracket.

To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if equipped).


Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute.

2. WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, notes, and instructions in the supplemental restraint system (SRS) deactivation/reactivation procedure.

Deactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS).

3. Remove the front seat.
4. Remove the front seat backrest.

5. Disassemble the parts in the order listed in the illustration and table.

Item 1: Head Restraint Disassembly Note







1. Push the two release tabs and remove the head restraint.

Item 2: Head Restraint Sleeves Disassembly Note







1. Lift the material and release the backrest J-clip.







2. NOTE: The inboard and outboard head restraint sleeves are not interchangeable.

Access and push the release tab and pull the head restraint sleeve out of the backrest frame tube.

Item 8: Backrest Trim Cover Disassembly Note







1. CAUTION: Use care when separating the seat upholstery from the hook and loop strip, or the hook and loop strip can be torn from the seat backrest foam pad.

Separate the hook and loop fasteners and remove the hog rings on the front of backrest cushion.







2. Remove the hog rings on the back side of backrest cushion.

Item 15: Lumbar Assembly Disassembly Note







1. Cut the zip-tie and detach the lumbar assembly retainer clips.







2. Remove the two zip-ties at the top of the lumbar assembly and remove the lumbar assembly.

ASSEMBLY

1. NOTE: Make sure the battery negative cable is still disconnected before continuing with the installation portion of this procedure.

To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure.

2. Install the front seat backrest.
3. Install the front seat.

4. WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, cautions, notes, and instructions in the supplemental restraint system (SRS) deactivation/reactivation procedure.

Reactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS).

5. WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from the vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.

With all the restraint system diagnostic tools removed, prove out the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
