Catalytic Converter-H-Pipe
Catalytic Converter-H-PipeRemoval
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. CAUTION: When repairing exhaust system or removing the exhaust components, disconnect all heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) at the wiring connectors to prevent damage to the heated oxygen sensors and wiring harness.
Disconnect the downstream RH and LH heated oxygen sensor electrical connectors.
3. Disconnect the two upstream RH and LH catalyst monitor sensor electrical connectors.
4. NOTE: Using a suitable jack, support the catalytic converter near the rear outlet.
Remove and discard the catalytic converter, the four flag nuts, the four studs and the four nuts.
5. Remove the RH exhaust manifold flange nuts.
6. Remove the LH exhaust manifold flange nuts.
7. NOTE: Make sure not to damage the manifold outlet flare, the converter inlet flare or the studs.
Remove the catalytic converter H-pipe.
^ Discard the RH gasket.
Installation
NOTE: Clean the mating surfaces of the manifold outlet flare and the catalytic converter inlet flare, and at the catalytic converter outlet flares and the inlet pipe.
1. NOTE: Install a new gasket on the RH side.
Support the catalytic converter near the rear outlet while positioning the converter into place. Align the manifold studs into the pipe flange. Make sure not to damage the studs or mating surfaces.
^ Make sure to correctly align the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold before installing the fasteners. Measure the distance between the catalytic converter flange and the floor.
2. Loosely install the new exhaust manifold-to-catalytic converter nuts, then loosely install the muffler-to-catalytic converter studs. flea nuts and nuts.
3. Alternately tighten, in 10 Nm increments, the RH and then the LH exhaust manifold nuts to specification.
4. Alternately tighten the catalytic converter-to-muffler nuts to specification.
5. Connect the two upstream RH and LH heated oxygen sensor electrical connectors.
6. Connect the two downstream RH and LH catalyst monitor sensor electrical connectors.
7. Lower the vehicle.
