Catalytic Converter-Y-Pipe

Catalytic Converter-Y-Pipe

Removal
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.

2. CAUTION: When repairing the exhaust system or removing exhaust components, disconnect all heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) and catalyst monitor sensors at the wiring connectors to prevent damage to the sensors and wiring harnesses.

Disconnect the RH and LH HO2S electrical connectors.

3. Disconnect the RH and LH catalyst monitor sensor electrical connectors.

4. NOTE: Using a suitable jack, support the catalytic converter near the rear outlet.

Remove and discard the flag nuts, studs and nuts at the catalytic converter outlet.

5. Remove and discard the RH exhaust manifold flange nuts.

6. Remove and discard the LH exhaust manifold flange nuts.

7. NOTE: Make sure not to damage the manifold outlet flare, the converter inlet flare or the studs.

Remove the catalytic converter assembly.

Installation

NOTE: Clean the mating surfaces of the manifold outlet flare and the catalytic converter inlet flare, and at the catalytic converter outlet flare and the muffler inlet pipe.

1. Support the catalytic converter near the rear outlet while positioning the converter into place. Align the manifold studs into the pipe flange. Make sure not to damage the studs or mating surfaces.
^ Make sure to correctly align the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold before installing the fasteners. Measure the distance between the catalytic converter flange and the floor.

2. Loosely install the new exhaust manifold-to-catalytic converter nuts, then loosely install the manifold-to-catalytic converter studs, flag nuts and nuts.

3. Alternately tighten the LH exhaust manifold nuts, in 10 Nm increments, to specification.

4. Alternately tighten the RH exhaust manifold nuts, in 10 Nm increments, to specification.

5. Alternately tighten the catalytic converter-to-muffler nuts to specification.
6. Connect the RH and LH H02S electrical connectors.
7. Connect the RH and LH catalyst monitor sensor electrical connectors.
8. Lower the vehicle.
