Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR

Removal and Installation
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Remove the splash shield.

4. Remove the accessory drive belt from the A/C compressor pulley.

5. Disconnect and detach the crankshaft position sensor electrical connector and position the wiring harness aside.

6. Detach the wiring harness from the bracket.

7. Disconnect the A/C compressor field coil electrical connector.

8. NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the A/C compressor bolts.

Loosen the bolts enough to slide the A/C compressor down one inch, allowing access for crankshaft position (CKP) sensor removal.

9. Remove the CKP sensor bolt and the crankshaft sensor.
10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
