Removal

Removal
All vehicles
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the radiator grille supports.

Vehicles equipped with A/C
3. Discharge and recover the air conditioning system.
4. Remove the A/C condenser core.

All vehicles
5. Remove the radiator, fan shroud and engine cooling fan.





6. Disconnect the 42-pin and the 16-pin connectors and remove the nut and the harness mounting bracket.
7. Remove the intake manifold.





8. At the oil cooler water inlet, disconnect and set aside the lower radiator hose.





9. Remove the bolts and position the power steering pump aside.

Vehicles equipped with A/C





10. Disconnect the connector and position the harness aside.





11. Disconnect the A/C cycling switch, remove the harness from the studs and position aside.





12. Disconnect the suction hose at the accumulator.

All vehicles





13. Disconnect the heater hose.





14. Disconnect the left and right heated exhaust gas oxygen sensor connectors.

Vehicles equipped with A/C
15. Remove the A/C compressor.

All vehicles
16. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.





17. Remove the nuts.
18. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil bypass filter.





19. Loosen the threaded insert and position the oil cooler aside.





20. CAUTION: A new oil cooler must be installed or severe damage to the engine can result.

Disconnect the coolant hoses and remove the oil cooler.
21. Remove the starter motor.





22. Remove the nuts and position the transmission oil cooler lines and bracket aside.





23. Remove the stud bolt and position the ground strap aside.





24. Remove the nut and position the wiring bracket aside.
25. Remove the flywheel inspection cover.





26. Remove the access plug.





27. Remove and discard the four torque converter nuts.
28. Remove the four lower transmission to engine bolts.





29. Lower the vehicle.





30. Remove the nut retaining the ground strap, and on automatic transmission equipped vehicles remove the transmission oil filler tube.





31. Remove the two studs and the heater water tube





32. Remove the three upper transmission to engine bolts.





33. Install the Modular Engine Lift Bracket and support the engine with a floor crane.





34. Remove the engine support insulator nuts.
35. Support the transmission with a jack.
36. Remove the engine from the vehicle.
