Removal and Installation
CAUTION: Refrigerant Compressor Oil (mineral oil) F73Z-19577-AA (Motorcraft YN-9-A) should be used to lubricate R-134a refrigerant system O-ring seals only and should not be added to the R-134a refrigerant system as an A/C compressor lubricant. PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil F7AZ-19589-DA (Motorcraft YN-12-C) or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B only should be used as an A/C compressor lubricant.
NOTE:
- Installation of a new accumulator is not required when repairing the air conditioning system except when there is physical evidence of contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the accumulator.
- New O-ring seals, lubricated in clean mineral oil, must be installed before reconnecting any A/C fitting which has been disconnected.
- Clean and lubricate the coolant hoses with plain water only if needed.
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Recover the refrigerant.
3. Remove the LH quarter trim panel. Refer to: Body and Frame, Interior Moulding/Trim, Trim Panel, Service and Repair, Service and Repair
4. Detach the headliner duct from the auxiliary climate control housing.
5. Remove the 2 A/C line fitting nuts.
- Discard the O-ring seals.
- To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
6. Using a suitable tool, clamp-off and disconnect the heater hoses.
- After disconnecting the heater hoses, allow the coolant to drain from the auxiliary heater core to avoid coolant spilling inside the passenger compartment.
7. Remove the 2 auxiliary line floorpan bracket nuts.
- To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
8. Remove the 2 auxiliary housing bolts and auxiliary housing nut.
- To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
9. Disconnect the auxiliary harness electrical connector.
10. Remove the auxiliary climate control housing.
11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Clean and lubricate the coolant hoses with plain water only if needed.
- Install new O-ring seals, lubricated in clean mineral oil.
- Lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean PAG oil.
12. Evacuate, leak test and charge the refrigerant system.
13. Fill the engine cooling system.
