Air Distribution and Filtering (Air Distribution)

AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING

NOTE: This vehicle cannot be equipped with a cabin air filter.

The air distribution system includes the:
- air inlet duct.
- instrument panel air distribution ducts.
- rear footwell duct.
- instrument panel registers.

Two sources of air inlet available to the air distribution system are:
- outside air.
- recirculated air.

Outside air is used whenever the RECIRC request button is NOT selected. To minimize fogging, the RECIRC request button is disabled and outside air intake will always be used when in the FLOOR/DEFROST or DEFROST position.

Recirculated air is used whenever the RECIRC request button is selected, unless the function selector is in the FLOOR/DEFROST or DEFROST position.

Air distribution within the vehicle is determined by the function selector switch position. Two airflow mode doors are used to direct airflow within the heater core and evaporator core housing. The function selector switch/cable assembly is used to position these airflow mode doors. Refer to Heating and Air Conditioning for description and operation of each of the system functions.

Air enters the passenger compartment from the:
- instrument panel registers.
- floor duct.
- windshield defroster duct.
- side window demisters.
- rear seat footwell duct (if equipped).

Air exits the vehicle through open windows or body air vents.
