ISSUE
Some 2004-2005 Ranger vehicles equipped with the 2.3L engine may exhibit a hard start, or a fuel flooding condition when the engine is cold. The condition can occur in ambient temperatures of 20-70° F (-7 thru 21° C). The condition may also result in engine crankcase oil becoming contaminated with fuel.
ACTION
Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using WDS release B35.5 or higher. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
Check the engine oil for fuel contamination and change the engine oil if necessary.
