Removal
All vehicles
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Drain the engine cooling system.
3. Remove the hood.
4. Remove the upper intake manifold.
5. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
6. CAUTION: The fan clutch has lefthand threads.
Using the special tool, remove the fan clutch and the fan blade as an assembly.
7. Remove the accessory drive belt.
8. Remove the fan shroud.
^ Remove the bolts.
^ Remove the fan shroud.
9. Remove the radiator.
10. Recover the A/C system.
11. Disconnect the A/C manifold and tube.
12. Disconnect the A/C manifold and tube at the accumulator.
13. Remove the nut and position the line aside.
14. Remove the nut.
15. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
16. Remove the nuts and detach the fuel tube bracket and the wiring harness bracket.
17. Remove the stud/bolts.
18. Set the A/C compressor and the A/C compressor mounting bracket aside as an assembly.
^ Remove the bolts.
^ Set the assembly aside.
19. Remove the nut and position the ground cable aside.
20. Disconnect the fuel tubes.
21. Disconnect the vacuum hose.
22. Disconnect the powertrain control module connector.
23. Remove the nut from the powertrain control module harness.
24. Remove the stud bolt and the powertrain control module ground strap.
25. Disconnect the generator wiring and position aside.
26. Disconnect both Heated Oxygen Sensors (HO2S).
27. Disconnect the transmission harness connectors.
28. Disconnect the vacuum hose to the vacuum reservoir.
29. Disconnect the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
30. Remove the LH heated oxygen sensor.
31. Disconnect the dual converter Y-pipe from both exhaust manifolds. 30900.
32. Remove the starter motor. 30306.
Vehicles equipped with automatic transmission
33. NOTE: Mark one stud and the flexplate for installation reference.
Remove the torque converter nuts.
^ Remove the access plate.
^ Remove the four nuts.
34. Remove the bolt.
All vehicles
35. Remove the eight transmission-to-engine bolts.
36. NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.
Install the special tools.
37. Remove the four nuts.
38. Support the transmission with a floor jack.
39. Remove the engine from the vehicle.
