Test D: The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module Does Not Respond To The Diagnostic Tool

PINPOINT TEST D: THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE DIAGNOSTIC TOOL

Normal Operation
The ABS module with roll stability control (RSC), communicates with the diagnostic tool through the controller area network (CAN), circuits 1827 (WH/LG) and 1828 (PK/LG). Standard ABS equipped vehicles communicate with the diagnostic tool through the international standards organization (ISO) 9141 communications network, circuit 70 (LB/WH). Check either CAN circuits 1827 (WH/LG) and 1828 (PK/LG) or ISO 9141, circuit 70 (LB/WH) between the ABS module C135 (ABS only) or C149 (ABS with RSC) and the data link connector (DLC) C251. The total resistance values must not be more than 5 ohms. If the resistance is more than 5 ohms there is an open in one of the CAN circuits, damage to the DLC C251, damage to the ABS module C135 (ABS only) or C149 (ABS with RSC), or a problem in an in-line connector.

Possible Causes
- CAN circuit 1827 (WH/LG) open (ABS with RSC)
- CAN circuit 1828 (PK/LG) open (ABS with RSC)
- ISO 9141 circuit 70 (LB/WH) open (ABS only)
- ABS module
