Spring





Removal and Installation
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.





2. Using a suitable Jack, support the rear axle.
3. Remove the shock absorber lower nut and bolt.
^ Discard the nut.
^ To install, tighten to 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.).
4. Remove the 4 U-bolt nuts, the plate and the 2 U-bolts.
1 Discard the nuts and U-bolts.
2 To install, tighten to:
^ 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.) for E-150.
^ 175 Nm (129 ft. lbs.) for E-250, E-350 and E-450.
5. Remove and discard the leaf spring front bracket bolt and flagnut.
1 To install, tighten to:
^ 200 Nm (148 ft. lbs.) for E-150.
^ 350 Nm (258 ft. lbs.) for E-250, E-350 and E-450.
6. Remove the leaf spring shackle-to-bracket bolt and flagnut, then remove the leaf spring assembly.
1 Discard the flagnut and bolt.
2 To install, tighten to 133 Nm (98 ft. lbs.)
7. Remove the leaf spring-to-shackle nut, bolt and shackle.
^ Discard the nut and bolt.
^ To install, tighten to 133 Nm (98 ft. lbs.).
8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
