Valve Cover - RHMaterial:
Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Battery.
2. Remove the engine cover.
3. Remove the engine air cleaner and the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
4. Remove the nut and position the wiring harness and bracket aside.
5. Disconnect the oil fill tube.
6. Remove the bolt and the oil fill tube.
7. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve electrical connector.
8. Disconnect the quick connect couplings and remove the PCV tube. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
9. Disconnect the wiring harness retainers from the RH valve cover studs.
10. Remove the nut for the transmission fluid indicator and tube.
11. Remove the nut and position the transmission fluid indicator and tube aside.
12. Remove the stud bolts and position the RH fuel charge wiring harness aside.
13. Disconnect the RH 5 ignition coil electrical connectors.
14. Disconnect the RH 5 fuel injector electrical connectors and lift the fuel charging wiring harness off the valve cover.
15. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
NOTE: The fasteners are part of the valve cover and should not be removed.
Remove the RH valve cover.
^ Fully loosen the fasteners and remove the valve cover.
^ Clean the valve cover mating surface of the cylinder head with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
^ Discard the valve cover gasket. Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.
Installation
1. Apply instant gel adhesive completely around the gasket groove in the valve cover. Install the new valve cover gasket.
2. NOTE: If not secured within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned. To clean the sealing area, use silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness, or 4 minutes, whichever is longer. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.
Apply a bead of silicone gasket and sealant in 2 places where the engine front cover meets the cylinder head.
3. Position the valve cover and the valve cover gasket on the cylinder head and loosely install the fasteners.
4. Tighten the fasteners in the sequence shown.
^ Tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
5. Position the RH fuel charge wiring harness and install the stud bolts.
^ Tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
6. Position back the transmission fluid indicator and tube and install the nut.
^ Tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
7. Install the transmission fluid indicator and tube support bracket nut.
^ Tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
8. Connect the RH 5 fuel injector electrical connectors.
9. Connect the RH 5 ignition coil electrical connectors.
10. Connect the wiring harness retainers onto the RH valve cover studs.
11. Position the PCV tube and connect the quick connect couplings. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
12. Connect the PCV valve electrical connector.
13. Connect the oil fill tube to the RH valve cover.
14. Install the oil fill tube support bracket bolt.
^ Tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
15. Position back the wiring harness and bracket. Install the retaining nut.
^ Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
16. Install the engine air cleaner and the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
17. Install the engine cover.
18. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Battery.
