RED ELECTRICAL HAZARD WARNING LAMP AND
DTC P0A95 - HYBRID VEHICLE

FORD:
2005-2006 Escape Hybrid

MERCURY:
2006 Mariner Hybrid

ISSUE
Some 2005-2006 Escape and 2006 Mariner Hybrid vehicles built prior to 9/25/2005 may exhibit a red electrical hazard warning lamp illuminated accompanied by diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0A95. When this code is set, the vehicle will not start. Normally this code indicates that the service disconnect plug is removed. In some situations, the high voltage battery system may falsely detect that the service disconnect plug has been removed. This can occur if the vehicle has been left in key-on for a long period of time causing the 12 volt battery to drop to a very low voltage level.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Verify the High Voltage (HV) fuse is good by removing the service disconnect and checking its resistance (less than 1 ohm).

2. Ensure the fuse is seated properly then reinstall the service disconnect and ensure that it is turned to the "ON" position.

3. Reprogram the traction battery control module (TBCM) software to the latest level using the IDS tool with release of B46.2 PATCH 1 or higher. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.

4. Clear TBCM DTC's and perform an on-demand self test (ODST).

5. If DTC P0A95 is still present, replace the Service Disconnect Plug and retest.

6. If DTC codes still exist, refer to Workshop Manual, Section 419-10.
