Compass Calibration

COMPASS CALIBRATION

1. NOTE: For optimum calibration, drive to an open, level location away from large metallic objects or structures. Switch off all non-essential electrical accessories (rear window defrost, heater A/C, map lamps, wipers, etc.) and make sure all doors are closed.

Start the vehicle.

2. NOTE: After the button is released, CAL is displayed with a heading. The compass is now decalibrated and enters the Initial AutoCal mode.

Press the momentary push button and hold it for more than 8 seconds. Release the button when CAL is displayed.

3. NOTE:
- Find a parking lot away from buildings, light poles, manhole covers, sewer and drainage grates, and other metallic objects. Look for signs of underground utilities, water mains, or other industrial structures. The parking lot should be level, with a smooth surface. Blacktop is preferable to cement, as cement often contains metal reinforcement rods or metallic mesh that could interfere with the calibration process.
- This process normally takes approximately 1 1/2 circles, but may take longer if magnetic interference is present or if the circles are driven too fast.

Drive the vehicle in a tight circle at a rate not more than 8 km/h (5 mph) in a magnetically clean area such as a parking lot. The CAL indication turns off when the calibration process is complete, leaving the compass heading on the display.
